Legal Requirements for Leaves of Absence – 3/4/27

Registration Closes:

Make sense of the overlapping leave laws, requirements, and employee protections that impact your district every day.

Managing employee leaves of absence requires balancing legal requirements, district policies, employee rights, payroll considerations, and operational needs. With multiple leave laws and overlapping provisions to consider, even routine leave requests can quickly become complicated. Understanding how different types of leave interact is essential for ensuring compliance, supporting employees appropriately, and reducing organizational risk.

This workshop provides a practical overview of the most common leave provisions affecting California school districts, including FMLA, CFRA, pregnancy disability leave, sick leave, extended illness leave, and industrial injury leave. Participants will learn how to track leave accurately, apply leave provisions correctly, determine reinstatement rights, and navigate complex leave scenarios with greater confidence. Walk away with practical guidance, compliance strategies, and tools you can apply immediately in your district.
