On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, around noon, the California State Legislature adjourned the 2025-26 session, relying on a rule that allows urgency and budget measures to be heard outside of the normal legislative timeline to extend session past midnight on August 31, 2026.  Members of the legislature will return to their districts to connect with constituents and prepare for election day.  Now, Governor Gavin Newsom will have until September 30, 2026, to act on the bills that reached his desk, either signing or vetoing them.

The three tables below outline the final legislative outcome on the bills CASBO took positions on during the year and made to the floor of their second house.  The first covers legislation CASBO supports and will ask the Governor to sign.  The second covers legislation CASBO opposes and will ask the Governor to veto. The third contains bills that CASBO had a position on during the session but will not be acting on any further.  For each bill in the third table, you will see the reason in the note column.
