Advance Towards CBO Certification

Completion of the CBO Business Executives Leadership (BEL) Program qualifies participants to become eligible to sit for CASBO’s CBO Certification Exam.

CBO Certification recognizes school business leaders who demonstrate the knowledge, leadership, and professional standards required of Chief Business Officials in California. CBO BEL helps prepare participants for the strategic leadership expectations of the role and serves as an important step toward earning this credential.

Completion of CBO BEL does not grant certification automatically.
Participants must successfully pass the CBO Certification Exam to earn the credential.

Admission to CBO BEL is selective, with cohorts intentionally limited to ensure a meaningful and impactful leadership experience. Applicants are evaluated based on leadership experience, readiness for executive-level development, and alignment with the goals of the program.

No. While many participants may be CBOs or come from fiscal services roles, CBO BEL is designed for leaders across multiple disciplines including HR, facilities, operations, and instructional leadership who are preparing to contribute to district-level executive decision-making.

BEL cohorts are intentionally limited to maintain a high-quality learning experience. Approximately 50% of applicants are admitted, ensuring participants are highly engaged and committed.

Tuition is $6,750 for members or $8,750 for non-members.

Full payment must be received by the specified cohort payment deadline to confirm participation in the program.

Payment plans are not accepted. Payment options include:

  • Credit Card; or
  • eCheck; or
  • Paper check (received by CASBO by the deadline).

 

Please Note: Travel and lodging for the CBO BEL onsite program dates are not included in program tuition. Additionally, tuition does not cover the cost of the CBO Certification Exam after program completion.

CASBO does not offer scholarship programs at this time. Please discuss financial support with your supervisor, Human Resources, CBO, school or County Office of Education prior to applying.

Many districts use professional development funds, leadership development allocations, or district training budgets to support participation.

CBO BEL is taught by a broad range of school business professionals who have led California school districts. Participants learn from real-world experience and engage in practical case-based discussions with peers across the state.

Yes. CASBO’s CBO Business Executives Leadership (BEL) Program serves as a recognized pathway toward CASBO’s CBO Certification, helping participants demonstrate readiness for executive leadership roles in school business.

Successful completion of the program qualifies you to sit for the CASBO CBO Certification Exam.

You must take and pass the CBO Exam (and pay all eligible fees) to earn your CBO Certification.

No. Many participants pursue certification as a professional milestone and credential validating their expertise, but sitting for the CBO Exam is optional.
