The Purchasing & Procurement Basics Micro-Certificate helps school business professionals build the foundational skills to manage purchasing responsibly, navigate California procurement requirements, and support effective district operations. This one-day, in-person program connects purchasing fundamentals with the everyday work of managing bids, contracts, vendors, inventory, and public resources.

Through nine modules, participants will explore the purchasing process from identifying responsibilities and selecting procurement methods to receiving goods, maintaining records, and managing vendor relationships. Knowledge checks and peer-to-peer discussions will reinforce learning and provide opportunities to exchange perspectives with others working in school business.

Designed for purchasing staff, department leaders, small-district CBOs, and vendors serving schools, this program provides a practical foundation for making informed purchasing decisions and supporting student success.

Who Should Attend:

Buyers, purchasing technicians, managers, specialists, clerks, purchasing assistants, directors of purchasing, purchasing agents, small-district CBOs, and other department directors.

Vendors and professionals selling products or services to school business are also encouraged to attend.

Associate Member Conference Attendance Policy

Purpose To ensure a fair and consistent experience for all participants at CASBO conferences and to maintain the value of sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities for associate members.

Policy Statement Associate Members who are not exhibiting or sponsoring at a CASBO conference are not permitted to attend the event as regular attendees.

Details

  • Conference attendance for Associate Members is considered a benefit tied to active participation as an exhibitor or sponsor.
  • Only Associate Member firms with a confirmed exhibit booth or paid sponsorship are eligible to register representatives for conference access.
  • Associate Members without an exhibit or sponsorship may not:
    • Purchase or obtain standard attendee registrations
    • Access sessions, meals, networking events, or the exhibit hall
    • Attend on behalf of or in partnership with another exhibiting or sponsoring organization
  • This policy ensures equitable opportunities for participating partners and protects the value of conference engagement offerings.

Exceptions Any exceptions to this policy must be reviewed and approved in advance by CASBO leadership.

Enforcement CASBO reserves the right to:

  • Deny registration requests that do not meet the eligibility requirements
  • Remove individuals from the event who attend in violation of this policy
  • Revoke or limit membership privileges for repeated violations
