E-rate Schools and Libraries Program

Between 2021 and 2025, California received nearly $2 billion in e-rate funds.  Now, the Federal Communications Commission is considering ending the program which benefits all California local educational agencies. The Schools, Health and Libraries Broadband Coalition has created this helpful advocay tool so you can contact your Congressional Representative and urge them to stop the FCC. Final Legislative Fiscal Deadline Passes

Today, Friday, August 14, 2026, was the deadline for legislation with fiscal implications to advance out of the Senate and Assembly Appropriations Committees. Both houses met the previous day to consider bills on the suspense file.

The Appropriations Committee suspense hearing process serves as a means to vet legislation with a large fiscal impact, over $50,000 in the Senate and over $150,000 in the Assembly.  The suspense file process allows the Legislature to consider all bills with significant fiscal impacts at the same time, rather than making funding decisions on a piecemeal basis.
