Shape CASBO’s priorities for the year ahead as a member of our Advocacy Network Committee.

Committee service is a rewarding way to give back to the school business industry while growing your professional network and gaining valuable leadership experience.

Member at large positions are open to all current individual members* who complete an application through Fri., May 31; representative positions are restricted to those within the relevant section. Appointees are selected by CASBO’s Executive Committee and start their term of service at the end of Annual Conference each year. All leadership terms are held for a period of three (3) years, unless otherwise noted.

*For purposes of eligibility, an “individual member” is a current Organizational Subscription Employee Member or Honorary Life Member who is not retired.

Qualifications:

  • Served as past Education Advocacy Foundation Chair or past Legislative Committee Chair or have substantive external advocacy experience.  
  • Served at least two (2) years on a CASBO professional council or committee.  
  • Be an Organizational Subscription Member or a non-retired Honorary Life Member.

Role of a Committee Member:

  • Support the Committee Chair in coordinating local efforts with the Governmental Relations division, CASBO Officers and the CASBO Legislative Committee.  
  • Communicates and advocates CASBO’s positions and priorities to local, state, and national elected officials and staff. 
  • Identify policy issues that impact public education and conveys those to the CASBO Legislative Committee and Governmental Relations division. 
  • Work with the Committee Chair, Governmental Relations division and the CASBO Annual Conference Committee to conduct an advocacy session at Annual Conference. 
  • Develop an email distribution list of interested members in their section, contacting and/or recruiting them to engage in advocacy efforts. 
  • Attend local CASBO events and participates in surveys, initiatives, and local elective forums to represent CASBO. 
  • Attend all section’s board of directors’ meetings and provides the section board with a written report of their activities. 
  • Send 34 emails yearly to section members, updating them on state/local advocacy efforts and committee activities, including calls to action where required (i.e., feedback requests, etc.). 
  • Contribute to discussions, decisions, and plans, asking questions and responding promptly to requests for feedback, information and/or action. 
  • Provide insight and mentorship to members and identifies ways to increase advocacy engagement with them 
  • Facilitate peer learning opportunities, advising on K-14 statewide initiatives, proposals, and issues.   
  • Conform all committee activities to CASBO policies and practices. 
  • Conform all expenditures to the committee’s budget as set by the CASBO Board of Directors. 
  • Review, sign and forward to CASBO payment all reimbursement claims for member attendance at committee meetings, in accordance with the policies established by the CASBO Board of Directors.
