The following Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access and use of casbo.org and related online services (the “Site”), operated by the California Association of School Business Officials (“CASBO,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms.

1. Permitted Use

The Site is provided solely for educational, informational, and professional development purposes relevant to school business professionals.

The Site may not be used in any manner that violates applicable law, infringes rights, interferes with Site security or integrity, or attempts to access systems or data without authorization. Unauthorized use, including but not limited to resale or redistribution of Site content or services, is strictly prohibited.

2. User Accounts and Access

Certain features may require registration. By registering, you understand, acknowledge and agree that you are solely responsible for all activity conducted through your account, and that you shall:

  • Maintain accurate, current information;
  • Maintain the confidentiality of your credentials; and
  • Notify CASBO immediately of any unauthorized access.

3. Intellectual Property Rights

The Site and all content, trademarks, service marks, and logos on the Site are owned by or licensed to CASBO and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. No license or right is granted to you by implication or otherwise. Except as expressly permitted in writing by CASBO, you may not reproduce, distribute, publicly display, or create derivative works from Site content.

4. Third-Party Sites

The Site may include links to third-party websites or services (“Third Party Sites”), which are provided for convenience only. CASBO does not control and is not responsible for such Third Party Sites. Your interactions with such Third Party Sites and/or any third parties are at your own risk and subject to such third party’s policies.

5. Purchase and Payment Terms

The following terms apply to purchases and registrations made through the Site or through CASBO’s invoicing processes. Additional terms may appear on specific event pages or order forms and are incorporated by reference.

Payment methods: Check, ACH, or Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Google Pay, Apple Pay). Purchase orders are not accepted as payment. Returned payments incur a $25 processing fee.

Credit card and ACH payments may be made online via your Member Profile at casbo.org or by contacting Membership Services at (916) 520-9193 or membership@casbo.org. Check payments may be mailed to CASBO, 1001 K Street, 5th Floor, Sacramento, CA 95814, with a copy of the proforma invoice.

a. Events and Workshops

  • Full payment of the applicable sales order (pro forma invoice) is required to complete registration, which must be completed prior to being granted access to attend an event or workshop. Registrations may be limited and processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Cancellations and changes must be submitted through the CASBO Professional Development Registration Change Form by the applicable deadline stated on the event page. Cancellation fees may apply. “No-show” registrants (including late cancellations (canceling less than 10 days before the event)) are generally ineligible for any refund.
  • CASBO may cancel an event for health, safety, low registration, or other reasons; in that case, CASBO will issue a refund of registration fees paid for the cancelled event.

b. Organizational subscriptions and memberships

  • Subscription and membership periods generally run annually from July 1 through June 30. Full payment is required to activate membership. CASBO may offer proration for new memberships as described in membership materials.
  • Renewals are due by June 30; CASBO may provide a grace period. Lapsed members may be required to pay full dues to reactivate.
  • Cancellations may be permitted; however, annual dues are generally non-refundable unless otherwise required by law or expressly stated in writing by CASBO.
  • CASBO may cancel a membership if eligibility requirements are not met.
  • Transfers and substitutions are prohibited.

c. Certification or training programs, and online learning

  • All certification applications, training programs, and online learning offerings may require full prepayment. Registrations are subject to availability, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Due to the proprietary nature of digital program materials, no digital content refunds will be issued once access has been provided, unless otherwise required by law or expressly stated in writing by CASBO.
  • CASBO may set course access expiration dates to maintain relevance; these dates will be disclosed in course descriptions. No refunds are granted for incomplete courses past such expiration dates.

6. Privacy and Communications

CASBO’s collection, use, and disclosure of information is described in our Privacy Notice, which is incorporated by reference. Please review that policy for details about cookies, analytics, and your choices.

By providing your contact information, you consent to receive transactional and Service-related communications from CASBO (e.g., confirmations, invoices, support responses). You may opt out of marketing communications as described in our Privacy Notice.

7. Disclaimers

THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT AND SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. CASBO DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CASBO WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SITE OR ANY CASBO SERVICES, EVEN IF CASBO HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT WILL CASBO’S TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO CASBO THROUGH THE SITE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR $100, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

9. Indemnification

You shall defend, indemnify and hold harmless CASBO and its affiliates, and each of their officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees and costs) arising out of or related to your use of the Site, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another.

10. Modifications

CASBO may modify the Site or these Terms (or any other external documents or terms incorporated by reference herein) at any time by posting updated Terms on the Site. The “Effective date” will indicate the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of such revised Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Exclusive venue for any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Site will be the state or federal courts located in Sacramento County, California, and you hereby consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.

12. Miscellaneous

  • Severability: If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
  • No waiver: CASBO’s failure to enforce any provision herein will not constitute a waiver of that provision.
  • Assignment: You may not assign these Terms without CASBO’s prior written consent. CASBO may assign these Terms in connection with a reorganization or similar transaction.
  • Entire agreement: These Terms, together with any external documents or terms incorporated by reference herein (including, without limitation, the Privacy Notice) and any additional terms presented for specific offerings, constitute the entire agreement between you and CASBO regarding the Site.
