Recommended Training Options for School Business Professional (SBP) Certification
There are three levels of SBP Certification:
Schools Business Professional I
Training: 60 hours of continuing education units (CEUs) earned at an accredited university or community college or through an approved professional development provider*
Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in an education-related position OR two years of experience in a management or supervisory position
Education: High school diploma/GED
School Business Professional II
Training: 60 hours of CEUs earned at an accredited university or community college or through an approved professional development provider
Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in an education-related management or supervisory position OR two years of experience in a management or supervisory position
Education: A minimum of two years of post-high school education
School Business Professional III
Training: 60 hours of CEUs earned at an accredited university or community college or through an approved professional development provider
Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in an education-related management or supervisory position OR two years of experience in a management or supervisory position
Education: A bachelor’s or graduate degree from an accredited university
The training requirements for all three levels are the same. You can satisfy them by completing these classes (60 CEUs):
- CASBO Workshop: Introduction to School Business (6.5 CEUs)
- Satisfies a Core requirement for the SBP Certification
- CASBO Workshop: Management and Supervision 101 (6.5 CEUs)
- Satisfies the Core requirement for Management and Supervision
- CASBO Workshop: Principles of School Law (6.5 CEUs)
- Satisfies the Core requirement for School Law
- CASBO Workshop: Budget Basics and Beyond (6.5 CEUs)
- Satisfies the Core requirement for School Finance and Budgeting
- CASBO Workshops: Complete any workshop listed in the CASBO Professional Development Course Catalog to satisfy remaining hours (34 CEUs).
Recommended courses to satisfy the Elective requirements:- Payroll Concepts (6.5 CEUs)
- Leaves of Absence (3.5 CEUs)
- Emotional Intelligence: The Art of Personnel Management (6.5 CEUs)
- Purchasing 101 & 102 (6.5 CEUs)
- Effective Slides & Visuals (6.5 CEUs)
- Collective Bargaining (3.5 CEUs)
*CEUs earned at the university or community college level are valid indefinitely; CEUs earned through an approved professional development provider are valid for four years.
