CASBO members can earn a digital certificate and 5 CEUs by enrolling in Purchasing 101 & 201 for free –a $445 value– on CASBO School Business University (SBU) through June 30, 2023.

Participants will learn procurement and bidding basics, construction contracts, insurance requirements, and more from three industry experts with decades of experience:

  • Guiselle Carreon is a retired director of purchasing, commercial warrants, and AP manager with 35 years of school business experience. A CASBO member since 1997, Carreon is currently a consultant and independent contractor for school districts across California.
  • Sarah Polito is a partner at Fagen, Friedman & Fulfrost LLP providing general counsel and legal guidance on procurement, school facilities construction, data privacy, land use, and governance. Polito uses her significant experience preparing requests for qualifications and other public bidding documents to advise clients on bid protests, piggyback contracting, education technology purchasing, and contract negotiation.
  • Gretchen Shipley is a Fagen, Friedman & Fulfrost LLP partner and chair of the firm’s eMatters Practice Group. She advises school districts on cyber citizenship, security, data privacy, new technology acquisitions, E-Rate compliance, and other related issues.

The course includes a comprehensive workbook based on the presenters’ experience and research, plus procedures, self-assessments, templates, sample documents, and other tools to put learning into practical action.
