This video provides a comprehensive introduction to the elements that districts and schools must consider to meet the parental engagement priority as it pertains to the LCAP. Investing just 30 minutes to view this video will put you on the path to compliance with the new law, and, more importantly, to the meaningful inclusion and discourse shown to improve academic outcomes for all students.

With schools well into implementing the first year of the Local Control Funding Formula and its associated Local Control Accountability Plans, now is a good time to consider how well districts are meeting the state’s eight educational priorities, especially parental engagement. Toward that end, CASBO is offering the following video to assist its members in effectively meeting this major component.

Gov. Jerry Brown has made clear that parent engagement is a key component in achieving not only the other priorities but absolutely necessary for the success of all students. Even though we are still early in this process, the California Department of Education will be required to check for authentic and thorough implementation of this component during monitoring reviews.

In partnership with CASBO, School Innovations & Achievement has provided a very comprehensive introduction to the elements that districts and schools must consider in order to meet the parental engagement priority as it pertains to the LCAP. The video provides guidance focused on the following:

  • Detailed overview of parent engagement research
  • Use of existing district tools
  • Addressing the identified student populations (economically disadvantaged, English learners and foster youth)
  • Best practices for parental engagement

This video also offers an ongoing professional development opportunity for all district and school site personnel. In addition, “Pathway to Parent Engagement” resource books will expand on each topic and provide hands-on tools for implementation.
