With the CEC’s recent release of the Proposition 39 Handbook and Application materials, districts and charter schools are finally able to move forward with plans to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in energy conservation and clean energy projects. Some of this planning is focused on how to most effectively gain approval of Proposition 39 allocations, but a number of districts are using this opportunity to develop Energy Master Plans.

With TerraVerde’s assistance, these districts are taking advantage of the Propositon 39 expenditure planning requirements to gather comprehensive baseline data on energy costs, equipment and building conditions and other than Proposition 39 funding needs and opportunities, to develop a longer-term more comprehensive energy management strategy. They recognize that energy costs are becoming one of their fastest growing budget items, and after five or more years of little or no funding for deferred maintenance, now is the time to take control of this critical piece of their cost structure. This video will describe the steps districts can take to develop increased control of their energy costs over the long term.
