Eric Dill at CASBO Con 25

For 23 years, Eric Dill has been a pillar of California’s education community. Most recently serving as the Associate Superintendent of Business Support Services at Poway USD, Eric has built a career around thoughtful leadership and strategic support. Since joining the Legislative Committee in 2013, he’s been a tireless advocate for school business professionals, culminating in his role as CASBO President during the 2024-2025 school year.

As of CASBO Con 25, Eric has officially passed the gavel. But his passion for school business? Still going strong.

So when CEO Tatia Davenport issued a light-hearted challenge during the opening general session at conference—“Ask someone close to you: What do I do for a living?”—Eric was ready. He sat his parents, Richard and Judy, down in front of a webcam to pose the question.

Listening to his parents’ responses, it’s clear where Eric got his exuberant energy.

“Nothing,” his dad quipped, before vaguely landing on “something with the school district.” His mom? “He irritates me,” she joked.

After some joint brainstorming, Judy nearly nailed it: “Assistant Superintendent of Business Operations.” Not bad for a six-word title that’s a mouthful even for those in the profession. (Eric’s actual title is Associate Superintendent of Business Support Services—close enough for a win.)

While the specifics were fuzzy, Judy captured the essence of the role perfectly:
“You tell your school board what they can spend and how they can spend it.”

That’s it. That’s school business leadership in a nutshell.

For over a decade as a CBO/Associate Superintendent, Eric has led district budgeting, fiscal stabilization, and bond programs. Like so many CASBO members, he brings critical financial insight to decisions that shape students’ futures.

Even when the words aren’t exact, these conversations can be both fun and enlightening. They remind us how much impact our work has—and how much more we can do to spread awareness.
