Proposition 2 Approved by the Voters
Proposition 2, the $10 billion Kindergarten Through Grade 12 Schools and Local Community College Public Education Facilities Modernization, Repair, and Safety Bond Act of 2024 has been approved by the voters according to several media outlets. As of November 18, 2024, statewide results show 58.4 percent (8,357,733) of voters have approved the ballot measure. The Secretary of State has until December 13, 2024, to certify the results.

The bond was placed on the ballot through Assembly Bill 247 and received widespread support from the legislature. The $10 billion will be divided as follows:
- $1.5 billion for community colleges.
- $8.5 billion for TK-12 districts, allocated as follows:
- $4 billion for repairs, replacement of portables at least 20 years old, and other modernization work.
- $3.3 billion for new construction.
- $600 million for facilities for career and technical education programs.
- $600 million for facilities for charter schools.
- $115 million set aside to remove lead in school water.
CASBO was a proud supporter and a consistent advocate for the bond throughout the process, recognizing the dire need for school facility funding. We are excited to see the positive outcome and appreciate the work of our members to raise awareness about the importance of this funding for school facilities. Moving forward, we will urge Governor Newsom to direct the School Facility Program and Office of Public School Construction to apportion more than $2 billion in the first year for TK-12 projects following the passage of Proposition 2.
